The Malls of Dubai - Rap Song by Rohit 09/23/2011
What Dubai can offer nowadays aside from the tallest building in the whole world, Burj Khalifa? Surely there are plenty. There are man-made islands, such as “Palm Jumeirah”, where the “Palm Atlantis” lies at the farthest end of it facing the sea; or “The World”, an island that replicates the big islands of earth; the stomach-turning rides at the red-sand Safari dessert; extreme weather conditions for the whole year; and malls hovering all over the place, big and small, with its own theme. A Dubai resident that is fascinated about the malls of Dubai later formed a rap song for you to experience a little bit of the most popular emirate amongst the 7 of UAE’s. Here we go. After looking for a place to work and finally found it because of no other choices, I accepted the offer to become an IT Solutions supervisor in one of landmark's shops in UAE, EMAX. The work description is not what I've expected, but I think I can handle it since I was in the customer service for a long time. Not including the time when I handled 5-10 people at Mister Donut as Shift Manager. Does everything happens for a reason? On my case, everything does. I was brought into this state experiencing things like a customer is at the top of his lungs screaming at me, where customer is always right, and is always correct. This day, I spent my first overnight at the store, to finish a laptop that was configured incorrectly. I'm working in a mall so everything is quiet when we try to roam and look for a wifi signal that is not blocked by some proxies. I'd like to see some ghost but it's only my reflection that I saw. Poor man. And so we left the premises at 6am, thanks God we finished everything. When someone tells you you're incapable of doing things, for some reasons, you step up to that and prove that you are not. When the customer came to pick up her device, its not a tear of disgust that fell from her eyes, but rather a contented smile. Not unlike before that she headed in front of the store with red eyes and damp tissues on her nose. January 26, 2011. The tallest of towers came to a new height as it opens the first gold vending machine "Gold To Go" (gtg) on 124th floor, just above the observation deck. Visitors, expats and locals alike can now have the after-sought souvenir at the ground floor of the building too. More vending machines are expected to rise within Ski Dubai, Atlantis Palm Jumeirah, and other historic places around Dubai and the whole Emirates. As memorabia, the gold bar boasts of pure 24k yellow gold embedded with Burj Khalifa's picture logo and with weights to choose from 2.5 grams to an ounce, which equals 28.3 grams! The lightest costs around AED500, not bad for investment, is it not? Considering the rising cost of the precious metal over the years, this simply shouldn't be missed! Flickr unblocked in UAE 10/16/2010
Since 2005, Flickr is banned in the UAE for reasons I still cannot comprehend until this day though if you have a smartphone with wifi capabilities, whether using Etisalat or Du SIM cards, you can open Flickr! When I was browsing gulf news to check what is happening aside from GITEX that started October 16, 2010 at Airport Expo, Dubai, I saw this news that as of September 2010, Flickr users that are based or just visiting Dubai for days, can now access their account. Flickr host images and videos and can be linked to Facebook and other networking sites in a flash. The only thing I don't like about creating an account in Flickr is that it hosts no unlimited images. I'll go check other hosting sites that I can save unlimited pictures and that I can generate income from publicly or privately storing those images upon viewing. Any comments or suggestions are open, if you have one. Shareapic is a nice site to start but somewhere along the line, I cannot view my galleries coz of slow internet, such glitches are things I don't like and rather look for other sites. Coz what if my internet is dial-up and I need some of my pictures? Then I'll be damned as Jurassic! Going back to Flickr, at least it can host videos as well. GITEX 2010 10/14/2010

September 25, 2010 Dear Ms.Nalini / Ms.Samia, Hi Mesdames, I would like to inform both of you when I’m assisting Dr. Belkais Marwan, the specialist dermatologist, I don’t like to be her nurse... because of so many reasons. These are: 1. She doesn’t know how to appreciate any of my help. At the end of the shift it’s like I owe her something that I helped her. No "thank you", not even an affirmative from her disposition. 2. She insults me in front of other people, specially patients. She always asks “Do you know that? You know how?” Oh my gosh! I am always helping her when no one is assisting her when there should be a nurse dedicated to her, but she never appreciates it. 3 doctors to 1 nurse? She always want a nurse to be with her inside most of the time even there are other doctors who needs me more. For minute things like gloves in front of her, she calls me just to give it to her! 3. She degrades me in front of patients. It’s like you’re the one who don’t understand, but she’s telling/describing/naming something in a wrong way! Before she speaks /tell something, she should think first, she should not tell to anyone or anybody “you don’t know anything”. It’s a very meaningful phrase that hurts me and other nurses too. 4. I show and clarify to her medicines to be given, but she will reply rudely and asks “You don’t know?” (before I give out anything to patients, I double check by asking the physician or by showing her the medicine, even though I know it already, because it is always happening that I will ask her many times then suddenly she will tell me that it is not the right one. She changes her statements prior to what she have said). 5. She’s always changing her words. She doesn’t have consistencies at all. She will blame you for everything. 6. She is not treating her colleagues as professionals but rather like housemaids. Just a simple switching the lights on/off, she calls me even though I’m busy with other things. One instance is she asks me to get a pair of scissors just to cut the remaining thread of her friend’s clothes! When she is getting angry, she is very unpredictable. She is professional unbecoming when one time she tore a paper because the receptionist misplaced the scanned paper, though the scanned paper that she tore has the same content with the misplaced paper! She acted very strange that we got so scared of her attitude. 7. She doesn’t want her staff to have a break. And when you go for a break, not even reaching 15-30mins, she will ask why? While she can have her food inside her room, in between patients… We are also human in need of food. Is she going to support her staff financially and emotionally when they will be sick?? Is she going to be responsible when her staff will have loss of consciousness because of fatigue and starving? Hopefully she will realize before somebody will got hurt. 8. If she doesn’t like a nurse or receptionist, she should tell it immediately, so that we will not look a stupid, thinking that the doctor appreciated our help, thus making the duty more stressful and heavier for the team that leads to her conclusion that we didn’t give her a hand and that she’s the only one who worked hard. 9. Lastly, after she wrote a letter complaining why Geraldine has been pulled out from her clinic and why me was sent to her that she don’t like me? Actually I am not the nurse assigned to her! I am just there to give a hand or help her because she don’t have any nurse even though nobody told me to help her and her nurse for a while, and I have doctors (dr.amin and dr.ghada) that time. As a professional I help her , but in the end I get a complain from her rather than thank you. Sincerely; Pinay vs Ihip to (mga ipis!) IELTS Exam in Dubai 09/07/2010
For the 2nd time (Sept4,2010), I accompanied her to Zayed University in Academic City, Dubai to complete her IELTS exam. We're praying that it will be given to us. After that, Canada here we come... The university is awesome, unlike other universities from the Philippines: it looks like the inside of a mall. They have this open area maybe a cafeteria or something where a see-through ceiling is built, managed landscape inside (though mostly plastic trees and/or shrubs), couches of differing colors and sizes, tables and chairs to have chitchat with friends and enjoy the break after class, wide walkways, and the building itself is a great modern architecture that I haven't seen in other places...so far. "Studying in this university must be expensive", as one of Kabayan commented while we roam the Ramadan-themed decorated place. | AuthorHe is an engineer, an architect, a painter, a journalist, a blogger, a friend and a hunk with an ab.
